Obasanjo fails to address poverty--Buhari

Stories from MUAWUYA B. IDRIS, Katsina

ALL Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) presidential candidate in the 2003 election, Major General Muhammadu Buhari has faulted the five years of democratic rule in Nigeria and described Obasanjos government as a failure to Nigerians.

He explained that five years after return to democratic rule in Nigeria, government is yet to address the problem of poverty.

Buhari spoke to newsmen shortly after commissioning a computer and tailoring centre for training of youth, sponsored by a member representing Katsina constituency in the House of Representatives, Alhaji Hamisu Gambo on Monday.

He explained that PDP-led federal government had failed to address problems of insecurity and corruption.

His words: I dont think any Nigerian is feeling secure materially or physically.

The ANPP presidential candidate said in spite of the fact that Nigeria has never earned so much money before, no improvement has however made the lives of Nigerians better.

He accused Obasanjo administration for its refusal to play politics according the rules, saying that there will never be free and fair election under PDP-led federal government for the last five years.

The fundamental thing of democracy is free and fair election, there has never been free and fair election under the government in the last five years, he added.

Speaking on the court case challenging the election of 2003 presidential election, which is before the Federal High Court of Appeal, Major General Buhari said ANPP is expecting judgement before the end of this month (December).

He explained that ANPP is ready to file fresh suit in Supreme Court if the High Court of Appeal strikes out the case.
