BARELY
24 hours after a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State led
by Gov. Lucky Igbinedion suspended Chief Tony Anenih and other top shots,
another faction in Plateau State yesterday repeated same on Gov. Joshua Dariye,
Chief Solomon Lar and other party chieftains.
Suspended along with Gov. Dariye by the
faction were Mr. Maichibi Vwarji; Amb. Yahaya Kwande; Dalyop Bok (Secretary);
Davidson (Vice - Chairman, Northern zone) and Mr. Komsol (Organising Secretary).
Announcing this at the launch of its
factional office, chairman of the group, Alhaji Habu Shindai, directed Gov.
Dariye and others suspended to appear before a disciplinary committee set up by
the faction on Saturday, December 18, or face dire consequences".
Alhaji Shindai who was also the
ex-chairman of the party in the state, accused Chief Dariye of allegedly
masterminding his removal from office.
"All forms of tricks and manipulations
were employed to unconstitutionally and illegally remove me from office as the
chairman of our great party. I was severally assaulted and scornfully removed
from the seat reserved for State Chairman at public functions and mocked at on
the prompting of the State Governor, Chief Joshua Dariye and Mr. Maichibi Vwarji...",
he further alleged.
But addressing reporters in his office
later, the state chairman of the party - Mr. Vwarji dismissed the faction as
"desperate people who are already stuck and disappointed in the failure of
earlier plots to convince our national headquarters to hold fresh election in
the state to remove Chief Dariye from office.
On the dire consequences awaiting those
behind the parallel body, Mr. Vwarji said, "we will send our reports to the
national headquarters after our investigations, and we will deal decisively with
the individuals in line with the constitution of the party",
According to him, Alh. Shindai is not the
chairman of the party, but an impostor who, he said, was earlier given a
commissionership position in Chief Dariye’s cabinet.
Mr. Vwarji stressed that the party’s
congress which holds every four years will be holding again in November next
year, even as he asked: "can anybody go to the streets and claim to be a
journalist?"
"If Habu is claiming to be the chairman of
the PDP, he can’t leave this place only to be operating like a guerrilla group
from a fringe office. It clearly shows you that he is not what he is claiming to
be," the state chairman declared.
