Sarumi blames economic woes on World Bank, IMF

    WALE FOLARIN, Ibadan

CHAIRMAN, House of Representatives Committee on Ogun/Osun River Basin, Hon. Tayo Sarumi, has blamed the nation’s economic woes on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.

He made this assertion in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, while featuring on personality interview programme tagged Iyaganku Hot Seat.

According to him, the two international bodies in collaboration with the nation’s leaders had been imposing unfriendly policies on Nigerians in a bid to satisfy the two bodies despite their negative posture on the nation’s economy.

"It is not until we free oursleves from the World Bank and the IMF that this country would move forward. It has been the IMF and the World Bank that have been dictating the pace for us in this country and until we are able to get out of their hooks, the value of our currency will remain inferior to others in the world market", he said.

Sarumi noted that the British and American government have been using all the tricks in the books to ensure that the federal government remove subsidy on oil and downsize its workforce in the last five years.

The lawmaker, who is representating Ibadan North constituency, called for the review of the nation’s constitution in order to ensure political stability, justice and true fedralism.

He stressed the need for the Federal government to allow the state governors to control the police in their states.

"I am very sure, if this is done, definitely the problem of arbitrary usage of the police will be discouraged and democracy will thrive in the interest of all in the country", he further stated.
