Last Updated: Wednesday, December 15th, 2004 HOME | Previous Page National dialogue is distraction, says CD   By Sola Shittu Reporter,  Ibadan   The Capmpaign for Democray (CD) on Tuesday condemned the planned convocation of National Conference by President Olusegun Obasanjo describing it as a step in the wrong direction especially at this time of great disaffection among various groups in the country. CD's President, Comrade Mashood Erubami in a statement in Ibadan, Oyo State  warned that the call for the Sovereign National Conference (SNC) should not be trivialised by the Obasanjo�s administration as if it is a call to settle disputes among the ruling cartel showing their visibility in the misrule of the country. "SNC is not an end in itself but a means of achieving a united , prosperous, peaceful and just nation which guarantees the practice of true federalism equitable share of the nation's resources, in a way that  a greater number of Nigerians would no longer wallow in squalor. The CD helmsman also said any National Dialogue mooted at this time must seek to remove the revenue of the nation from the hands of those using it to oppress the poor as well as address the greater issues of better ethnical governance of the country and  a straightening of the strained relationships  among diverse ethnic nationalities in the country. According to him, Obasanjo acceptance of the convocation of sovereign National conference is a deliberate political design meant to distract the attention of the Nigeria populace from being able to challenge the wrong headed reforms of the government.     Copyright� 2004.
