PDP will rule Nigeria for 50 years, says Ogbulafor
From Gordi Udeajah, Umuahia
THE National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, declared at the weekend that the party would hold the forte for not less than 50 years.
Ogbulafor disclosed this to The Guardian in the Ngodo Isudehi residence of Senator Uche Chukwumerije (PDP) representing Abia-North during the traditional marriage rites of Chukwumerije's daughter.
Ogbulafor, however, counselled his PDP members and Nigerians to ensure that a worthy person succeeds President Obasanjo in 2007.
His words: "Nigerians must be very careful about who they select to succeed Obasanjo in 2007. What President Obasanjo has started must be sustained after 2007, otherwise, we will be back to the 1999 status quo".
According to Ogbulafor: "It will not be beneficial to Nigerians if we start regressing instead of progressing. I believe strongly that in 2007, the PDP will bring up a presidential candidate that will continue from where Obasanjo has stopped.
"The party has promised that it was and is still out to make Nigeria a better place just as it will rule the country for not less than 50 years".
On the zoning of the presidency, Alhaji M. D. Yusuf, leader of the Movement for Democracy and Justice Party (MDJP) also told reporters at the same venue that he opposed the principle of zoning political offices including the presidency.
Said he: "Merit should be the yardstick. Let those who feel they are qualified and are interested come out from their political parties and let Nigerians choose who they want".
He described the accusation of corruption by the President against the state governors as wrong, saying since there is no evidence made public by both parties, he would not know who is right or wrong.
