About N1 billion has been realised within the
past four months as revenue, by the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS),
the AGIS coordinator, Mrs Altine Jibril, has said.
AGIS was established about four months ago, by
the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) ministry to re certify about 20,000
certificates of occupancy.
It is also to process 60,000 rights of
occupancy and rectify anomalies regarding 20,000 plots with multiple
allocations issued by the ministry between 1980 and 2003.
The exercise is expected to last for 18 months,
with the first nine months being utilised to re certify all the certificates
of occupancy within the Federal Capital City (FCC).
The remaining period is expected to be used in
re certifying certificates of occupancy for other lands within the FCT.
Jibril told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
today in Abuja, that the revenue was realised from the payment of accrued
ground rents, power of attorney, transfer of deed, assignment and other
charges that hitherto people had not been paying over the years.
She warned that despite the apathy by title
holders to come forward for the exercise, the period earmarked for the
exercise would not be extended.
According to her, AGIS had within the period
under review, received about 3,355 applications for re certification and
reissued about 200 certificates and authenticated another 500 allocated
plots.
The coordinator hinted that after computerising
the operations of AGIS, 817 multiple allocations as against the 49 before
the exercise in addition to 119 applications for plots with multiple file
numbers.
After that computerisation, we discovered
2,149 multiple plot numberings and 634 revocations in addition to 235 plots
that encroached on road corridors.
We discovered that there were 91 plots on trunk sewer lines
and 57 of such plots on water lines, she said.
