WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2004           Journalists urged on 2005 census enlightenment By Abdulra�uf Ibrahim, Abuja Journalists have been urged to join hands with the government to enlighten the general public on the importance of census to the masses through advocacy campaign to the grassroots. The minister of informaiton and National Orientation, Chief Chukwuemeka Chikelu who maintained this while briefing newsmen on their planned activities for the 2005 census, the said that form January 15 to 17 next year his ministry would go on publicity and advocacy visits towards promoting the census. The minister who also promised to partake in the visit, said that his ministry would support NPC to attain its success by providing logistics needed for the census which include computers, telephone, tax machines, vehicle equipped with communication gadgets and other equipments that may be needed for the exercise. According to him, nine languages have been chosen to get across messages to the public. �2005 census should not be seen as government affair, government only work as Facilitator by providing equipment needed and training the manpower while individual�s support it to make it a successful census,� he stated. Similarly, Project Director PICB, Hajia K. Yolah, enjoined general public to make sure that past mistakes are not repeated. Hajiya Yolah, pointed out that wihtout accurate and creadible census, there would be no accourate provision for national development.
