WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2004           NEMA delivers N17m food to refugees The National Emergency Management Agency( NEMA) has delivered food items worth N17 million to refugees at the Oru camp in Ogun State. A statement signed by the agency�s spokeman, Mr Biodun Oladunjoye, said the items were delivered on special request by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) for feeding of the refugees �this festive period.�� The statement said that Alhaji Nuhu Al-Hassan, delivered the items on behalf of the director-general of NEMA, Alhaji Salihu Makarfi, to the UNHCR�S country representative, Mr Eusebe Hounsokou, at the refugees camp. Speaking at the occasion, Hounsokou commended the federal government for its concern for the plight of refugees and the displaced and distressed people in the continent. He, therefore, urge other nations to emulate Nigeria in �the display of good neighbourliness and brotherhood often professed by all.�� Hounsokun, however, advised the refugees to learn to fend for themselves as �this would solve many problems facing them.�� �If you go back to your country, you will have to fend for yourselves, do not always expect free food,�� Hounsokou said.
