    World IgboSummit holds in Enugu

PROMINENT Igbo leaders at home and in diaspora will today, in Enugu, converge for this year’s World Igbo Summit.

Billed to hold at the famous Michael Okpara Square, Independence Layout, Enugu, the high profile event, is expected to attract eminent Igbo sons and daughters worldwide.

Senate President, Chief Adolphus Wabara, is the special guest while the former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, is billed to deliver the keynote address. His Royal Highness, Igwe Paul Egbogu is the chairman of the occasion.

According to a statement by apex Igbo organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the organiser of the event, former Health Minister, Prof. A. B. C. Nwosu, will make a special presentation at the summit which is expected to wind up tomorrow.

Governors of the five South East states, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu); Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia); Dr. Chris Ngige (Anambra), Dr. Sam Egwu (Ebonyi) and Chief Achike Udenwa (Imo) will attend alongside senators, ministers, House of Representatives members and other top government officials from the zone.

Apart from articulating various ways of improving the infrastructural and social economic well-being of Ndigbo, the august conference is expected to dwell extensively on how to shore up the political fortunes of the South-East.

Although the persistent clamour for the zoning of the presidency to South-East in 2007 is not contained in the advertorial announcing the event, the issue is expected to top its agenda.

According to the organisers, six areas to be looked into are politics and governance, social security, culture and linkage with Ndigbo in Diaspora and infrastructure. Also finance and economic development of Ndigbo as well as commerce and industry will be adequately addressed.
