Dog sends Father Xmas to hospital

Abeokuta
A HEAD of Christmas
Day, a middle-aged man playing Father Xmas for a white garment church in
Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, is now writhing in pains after being knocked
down by a hit-and-run driver.
He was chased by a wild dog into the front
of the vehicle which hit him at railway line, Lafenwa area.
An eyewitness said the costume of the
Father Xmas had apparently infuriated the fast approaching dog.
The dog reportedly barked repeatedly and
thereafter advanced towards the unsuspecting Father Xmas who was
acknowledging cheers from some school children.
Face to face with the dog, the apparently
frightened man reportedly attempted to flee to the other side of the road to
escape attack.
Incidentally, he was said to have run into
the front of the moving private car which hit him, fracturing his legs
instantly.
As at press time, he was receiving
treatment from a native doctor who specialized in mending broken bones at Sabo
section of the town.
Meanwhile, swell yuletide celebrations
await Ogun civil servants as Gov. Gbenga Daniel has assured of early payment of
their salaries and other entitlements to enable them prepare adequately for the
festivity.
Governor Daniel made the promise while
fielding questions from newsmen after a press briefing on the outcome of the
State Executive Council (Exco) meeting at Governor’s Office Press Centre,
Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The governor who was represented by his
Finance Commissioner, Mr. Tunji Bello commended the civil servants for a job
well done in the present year.
He stressed that their good work had made
it imperative for his administration to boost their morale by rewarding their
labour with prompt payment of their salary.
Daniel assured the workers that they would
get their pay and other fringe benefits on or before Wednesday, December 22
moreso that Xmas and Boxing Day fall on week-end
"We are working out details on what kind
of largesse to put in place for our committed civil servants.
"Meanwhile, we have been directed in the
Ministry and Budget Planning to ensure that our people who are doing very well
get paid on or before 22nd December, moreso, that ‘Xmas and Boxing Day fall on
Saturday", he added.
Speaking further, Daniel reiterated his
administration genuine commitment to workers welfare saying, "Our government
will never deliberately delayed payment."
