Last Updated: Friday, December 17th, 2004 HOME | Previous Page Lagos Police arrest 268 robbers, kill 73  in nine months   By Femi Ogbonnikan Reporter, Lagos   In their war against men of the underworld in the last nine months, the Lagos State Police Command say that they have arrested 268 armed robbery suspects and killed 73 others in various operations between January and September, 2004. According to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Emmanuel Ighodalo, 2, 877 live ammunition and a total of 219 firearms were recovered from the suspects in the months under review. Similarly, during the encounters with the hoodlums, no fewer than 14 policemen were felled, while seven men of the underworld were mowed down.  Ighodalo  said the command has put in place necessary machinery to fight crime during the festive period. Christmas and New Year season, according to him, is the period hoodlums love to perpetrate their nefarious activities. He advised the citizens of Lagos state to celebrate the season without fear, as the command is on ground and ready to fight hoodlums to a standstill. The police image-maker further advised Lagosians to warn their wards and children against the use of firearms, which according to him, is what the bandits cash in on to rob their victims.     Copyright� 2004.
