DAILY TRIUMPH-ANPP on Yarimas presidential bid

                                                                                    FRIDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2004

ANPP on Yarimas presidential bid

From FAROUK ADAMU YAKASAI, Gusau

ZAMFARA state chapter of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) has dissociated itself from the posters of Governor Ahmad Sani calling on him to contest the 2007 presidential election.

The party was however quick to point out that if the governor indicates interest to contest for the presidency it would not hesitate to give him total support.

Speaking with journalists after the conclusion of the partys executive meeting in Gusau, the state chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar stressed that if the call persists we shall prevail on the governor to join the race.

According to him, eventhough the party is not officially contacted on Governor Yarima to contest the presidency, if the pressure forces him to open up, they would have no option but to support him.

On the ANPP crisis, the chairman maintained that it is part of the mechanisms of a democratic party in a democratic nation and it can never survive without it.

In his words: In any democratic party, there must be crisis within, where the leaders agree to disagree and also disagree to agree which in the end will reach final agreement.

He denied that the meeting held at the party secretariat was summoned to discuss Yarimas presidential bid but that it was a routine meeting on how to move the state forward.

Our correspondent in Gusau also reported that Yarimas posters have have dotted streets of Gusau town and across the local governments calling on the governor to take a shot at the presidency.
