KANO state deputy governor, Engr. Magaji Abdullahi has
urged Nigerian engineers to rise to the challenges in the task of making the
country technologically better especially in this new era of Global
Technology.
Engr. Abdullahi according to a press release signed by
his Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmad Ibrahim gave the charge in a
speech he delivered at the 37th National Engineering Conference and the
Annual General Meeting of the society held in Warri, Delta state.
He stated that Nigeria is blessed with competent
professional engineers that can match their counterparts anywhere in the
world, charging them to utilize their expertise for a more rapid
technological development of their motherland.
Meanwhile, the conference has advised the federal
government to rigorously pursue the strategic plans for engineering
development and control and further directed all engineers in the country to
work towards realization of the technological aims and objectives of the
nation.
The NSE also resolved to renew its determination to take
over most of the engineering functions so as to minimize the use of foreign
manpower, plants, equipments and machinery.
Similarly, the NSE charged all its members to remain
committed and provide quality advise to various arms of government and other
segments of the society involved in development of commerce, industry and
academics in order to uplift the country for a more meaningful technological
advancement of the nation.
To actualize the theme of the conference, �Local Content
Development in Nigerian Economy,� the society pledged to pursue with much
vigour, all opportunities available to the engineering profession in the
country.
In a similar development, Kano state has been given right
to host the 38th National Engineering Conference and the Annual General
Meeting scheduled for next year.
To this end, the right to host the two events next year
in Kano was made formal with the presentation of the society�s flag to the
chairman of Kano State Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr.
Muhammad Jibrin by the chairman of Warri Branch, Engr. W. A. Ogubere.
The state branch recalled that Engr. Magaji Abdullahi who
was chairman of Kano state branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers from
1990 to 1991 gave a personal donation of N300,000 for the success of the
conference and pledged the support and cooperation of the government and
people of Kano state towards a successful conference and Annual General
Meeting of the society in Kano next year.
A powerful delegation of engineers from Kano state led by the chairman of
the state branch of the society, Engr. Muhammad Jibrin participated actively
at the Warri conference.
