PERSONNEL handling the distribution of free
tuberclosis and leprosy drugs, have been advised to educate and mobilize
patients on how to use them properly.
The district head of Babura, Sarkin Bai of
Ringim, Alhaji Hadi Mustapha gave the advice while launching the programme
at Babura general hospital yesterday.
Alhaji Hadi Mustapha said the call become
necessary because most of the patients resides in villages, and advised the
patients to adhere strictly to prescription of doctors at all times.
He commended the Jigawa state government for
selecting Babura to launched the progrmame inview of its great importance.
The Sarkin-Bai of Ringim used the occasion to
called on the state government and the ministry of health to include Babura
general hospital as one of the centre designated for the Drugs Revolving
Fund (DRF), and safe motherhood programmes for the benefit of his subjects.
Earlier in his welcome address, the chief
Nursing officer (C.N.O.) of the hospital, Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammad Balangu,
commended the Jigawa state government and the World Health Organisation
(WHO), for their immense contributions towards eradicating leprosy and T.B.
diseases in the state.
C.N.O. Mohammad commended the entire staff of
the hospital for their dedication and loyalty and urged them to maintained
the tempo.
Also speaking the senior medical officer (SMO)
and chairman hospital management committee, Dr. Abdul Alhaji, said the drugs
are given to both tuberculosis and leprosy patients at the two designated
centres in Babura and Kanya freely.
He said the Babura centre cater for diagnosis
while that of Kanya-Babba is for treatment and urged such patients to report
promptly and get the drugs.
Dr. Abdul Alhaji expressed satisfaction for
choosing Babura general hospital to be one of the selected centre for DRF
and safe motherhood programmes as introduced by the Jigawa state ministry of
health in conjunction with PATHS and DFID.
The SMO thanked the district heads of Babura
and Kanya-Babba as well as the divisional police officer in charge of the
area for honouring their invitation to grace the event.
In a vote of thank, the district head of Kanya
Babba, Magajin Malam of Ringim, Alhaji Mohammad Ibrahim, said he was happy
for the concern shown by the government towards improving the health care of
the populace in the state.
He said he was aware that leprosy patients for
the past fifty years receives drugs free of charge at Kanya dispensary and
hoped the disease will be totally eliminated in near future.
Alhaji Mohammad Ibrahim advised the officers
responsible for the programme to go to every nooks and crannies of the local
government and educate the people on the importance of the exercise and show
them (patients) how to use the drugs.
The occasion was attended by the DOP in charge of Babura
Division, DSP Buraina Abdullahi, the management and staff of the hospital.
