FRIDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2004           Community protests derobing of Senator Ajadi Some indigenes and supporters of Senator Makanjuola Ajadi have protested against the removal of a former senator as the �Asiwaju of Babanlomo�� by Oba Usman Ayilara. Leading hundreds of the protesters, a spokesman of the group and Secretary General of the Babanlomo Community and Alhaji Garuba O. Olaoye, rejected the derobing of Ajadu. Olaoye said at a press briefing in Ilorin that �Ajadi is our Asiwaju and he will always be��. Announcing the withdrawal of Ajadi�s chieftaincy robe on November 28, Oba Ayilara had said that the senator would henceforth cease to be a member of the Babanlomo Development Union in Ifelodun local government area of Kwara state. But acknowledging the contributions of Ajadi to the development of the town, the Union�s scribe said they would continue to recognise the real sons and daughters of the area, because �it is by their fruit that we shall know them �. The members of the community accused their traditional ruler of undue interference in the affairs of the Union and that his words and deeds had dumped his Royal garments to become the political gladiator of Babanloma. The members, who extolled some virtues of Ajadi, described him as the �Moses of our time who will be vindicated��. They said that Ajaji had provided facilities like electricity and bore holes for the community, bursary awards of about N800,000 to students and a Mercedes Benz car to the Oba in 1999. The address entitled �Sleep is murdered in Babanloma due to resurrection of the Devil Advocate��, was signed by nine representatives of the community and Eka-Idale Idagbasoke Ilu Babanloma (B.D.U.) The former ANPP senator lost his re-election bid to Senator S. Ajibola of the P.D.P. in the 2003 general elections.
