*His loyalists counter move
ABUJA: Trouble is not over yet for the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Audu Ogbeh following moves by some members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to forge ahead with their motion for the dissolution of the National Working Committee (NWC), after failing in their bid, Thursday.
Saturday Vanguard learnt yesterday in Abuja that the motion would be revisited at the next meeting of the NEC next month. The motion, detailing allegation of constitutional breaches and other offences against the NWC, was not discussed at Thursday’s NEC meeting because attempts to do that were frustrated by the forces loyal to him.
But a source at the meeting said that an ex-officio member from Imo State, Dr. C.N. Onuorah duly moved the motion, which was seconded by the Rivers State chairman of the party, Uche Secundus.
Pro-Ogbeh elements had fought to stall the discussion of the motion and shifted the attention of the meeting to the face-off between Ogbeh and Obasanjo, following from the letter of December 6, 2004. Ogbeh’s supports who faulted the allegations are also said to be preparing their own counter move against their principal.
It was learnt that when the meeting was degenerating, Governor Olusegun Agagu of Ondo state called for reconciliation rather than confrontation. Ogbeh had said at the end of the meeting that the plan to remove the NWC had been dropped, but feelers yesterday said that some aggrieved NEC members who cut across the presidency, National Assembly, Governors, Zonal Vice Chairman, State Chairman and National Ex-Officio members had started to re-strategize for January 2005 meeting of the NEC.
A member of NEC stated: “The matter is not over. Serious allegations of constitutional breaches have been submitted to the party and its leaders and presented at the last NEC meeting. The NWC, however, frustrated the discussion of the motion. But we will revisit it in January.”
