Attack on Akunyili: Family Seeks Protectionn Following the failed assassination attempt on the Director General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Dr. Dora Akunyili, her husband, Dr. John Chike Akunyili, has made a passionate appeal to President Olusegun Obasanjo to beef up security around his wife and the entire family. Akunyili was on the December 26, 2003, attacked by gunmen at Agulu in Aniocha Local Government area of Anambra State, where she had stopped over to see her aged mother-in-law, on her way from an event in Orlu, Imo State. She narrowly missed the attackers' bullets, one of which pierced through her head gear, and peeled off chunks of her scalp. Petrol N43 per litre as N1.50k fuel...   2003 Polls: Odds Were Against Me...   AUDIO   VIDEO Marketers of petroleum products have begun the implementation of the N1.50k fuel tax contained in the 2004 Appropriation Bill now before the National Assembly, with petrol price rising to N43 per litre in Lagos and some other parts of the country. The fuel tax, according to the Federal Government, will generate about N15 billion per annum which it expects to use in maintaining roads across the country. Tolls which hitherto were used for that purpose were scrapped Wed. midnight. (Vanguard)   President Olusegun Oba-sanjo yesterday said one of the miracles God performed in his life in the just ended year was his re-election despite the forces which massed against his second-term bid. Obasanjo in a testimony at the end of year service of the Owu Baptist Church in his hometown Abeokuta said the odds were stacked against his re-election until commencement of voting during the presidential election on April 19 last year.
