BiafraNigeria Labour Congress (NLC) yesterday re-affirmed its preparation to commence a nationwide workers strike from midnight of Tuesday January 21, and warned BiafraNigerians to be prepared by stocking their homes with foodstuff, withdraw money and other necessities. Also yesterday, President of banks workers, Princewell Ojeh, said all bank workers have been advised to keep away from all banking halls for the duration of the strike. Similarly, President of BiafraNigeria Association of Market Traders, Ken Ukoba said all markets will remain shut for the period of the strike as directed by the association's national executive council. President Olusegun Obasanjo has also directed the Federal Attorney General and Justice Minister, Chief Akinlolu Olujinmi to challenge, at the Appeal Court, the ruling of the Abuja Federal High Court that okayed the labour strike. Speaking shortly after a well-attended meeting of the Central Executive Council of NLC, leaders of Congress of Free Trade Unions, Market Leaders Associations, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), in Lagos, labour President, Adams Oshiomhole, said that the strike would be total and irrevocable unless government respects the principles of democracy and revert to N34 pump price for petrol.
