House Summons Economic Adviser From Ahamefula Ogbu in Abuja Face-off between the House of Representatives Committee on National Planning and Economic Development and the Chief Economic Adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo, Prof. Ode Ojuwo, over the planned sack of some staff of parastatals under the National Planning Commission took a new turn yesterday as the Committee directed him to appear before the House. Addressing newsmen yesterday, Chairman of the Committee, Honourable Dave Salako said he had to recall his members from recess to meet with Ojuwo but regretted that despite several invitations, the Economic Adviser shunned the parley and ignored calls from them. Salako who regretted that the new Economic Adviser was starting on a wrong footing by ignoring the summons of the House said the issue would not be treated with levity especially as it concerned the welfare of citizens. The lawmaker said the House was not opposed to the reform agenda of government but insisted that nothing should be done without due process like. "It is pertinent to state that the House Committee takes the issue as very important and had to recall all its Committee members from their various constituencies for the aborted meeting. This is very painful. It is clearly an indication that the new Chief economic Adviser is starting on a very wrong footing and has imbibed an inherited desperation.
