Hammani Tidjani: Police Recover More Vehicles From George Oji in Abuja Police yesterday said they have recovered 113 exotic cars from the Niger Republic- born suspected notorious criminal, Hammani Tidjani who is currently standing trial for armed robbery in Nigeria. The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun at a press briefing in his office in Abuja said 18 suspects were also arrested in connection with robberies allegedly perpetuated by Tidjani. Balogun said that about 205 stolen cars including jeeps were traced to the notorious criminals but only 113 had been recovered so far. He said, "The prosecution of Tidjani is in progress, while the exotic cars recovered from him and his cohorts are being released to the owners. Tidjani, prior to his arrest late last year, was alleged to have specialised in cross border armed banditry between Nigeria and Benin Republic. Most of the vehicles stolen from Nigeria were taken to Republic of Benin through Nigeria's porous borders and were resold to Nigerians. The Police also said it has commenced moves to strengthen security along Nigerian borders with Niger, Cameroon, Benin and Chad. According to Balogun, the moves are aimed at establishing joint patrols between Nigerian police and security agents of these countries.
