NGC Restores Gas Supply to NEPA From Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja The Nigerian Gas Company (NGC) yesterday resumed normal supply of Gas through its pipelines to the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) whose two major power stations located in Delta state and Egbin, near Lagos were forced to shut down two weeks ago as a result of scheduled maintenance work on the facilities of the gas company. Sources at the gas company told THISDAY that the resumption came after NGC had received a clean bill from its contractors handling the servicing of the equipment that they can now begin operations. NEPA had while justifying its decision to commence a massive load- shedding through the country a forth night ago, blamed the low power level on the withdrawal of gas supply to its plants. Also, NEPA yesterday said its generation capacity has gradually short up again to about 3000 Mega Watts from the less than 2500MW it fell to in the wake of the closure of the Gas-powered stations. But an official of NEPA told THISDAY that it would take till Friday before normal operations can be restored at the power stations because of the time duration required before the gas reaches the plants. They said the Authority has also started running most of the units at the Hydro-power stations following a substantial rise in the water level at Kainji and Shiroro Dams. "The Hydros are witnessing a renewed upsurge in activities as a result of the rainy season which has raised water level along the River Niger", the official said.
