Pensions Directorate Owes Plateau N50m From Funmi Peter-Omale in Jos Directorate of Military Pensions, Abuja, is owing the Plateau State government about N50 million. The amount represents payments on behalf of the directorate to police and military pensioners spanning over three years. Chairman of Plateau State Pension Board, Mr Morgan Piwuna revealed this to the state administrator, Major-Gen. Chris Alli (rtd) while on a visit to the board. According to Piwuna, the board has an outstanding of over N70 million to pay pensioners while outstanding gratuities stands at about N1 billion covering three months. He said the board makes a monthly payment of over N48 million, adding that the figure flunctuates due to retirements, deaths, promotions, omissions and adjustments. Piwuna advised government to reposition the board by releasing the sum of N1.1 million to procure office equipment. The sole administrator in his response praised pensioners for employing peaceful means to ask for their entitlements. He assured that government would set aside certain amount of money for payment of pensions but solicited their cooperation in the gradual tackling of the problem. he noted that "pension is used to look after the weak, adding that having worked for government for several years, they deserved to be paid their entitlements.
