Registration Begins for Premier League Teams Basketball By Pius Ayinor The Premier Basketball League which has been in the cooler this season, is set to take the first jump ball as the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has invited teams to commence season's registration. The Federation, through a letter signed by the Assistant Secretary, Bisi Odubote, stated that the registration which commences today will close on July 14th after which the league itself is expected to begin. "You are therefore advised to start your registration process with effect from July 1st until the 14th," the letter read in part. By the other details, the Federation raised the registration fee by more than a hundred percent to N1,000 per player while each of the clubs is asked to register a maximum of 15 players for the current season. Teams were allowed up to 18 last season. For the transfer system, any player on the transfer list from any of the eight teams that made the play off last season would cost N10,000. Transfer for all other player within the Premier league system would attract N8,000 while those shuffling from the lower divisions would cost N5,000 each. By yesterday no definite date was announced as start off date for the league, but it was gathered that the first jump ball would be taken before the end of July. The league had been originally scheduled to start in May before a forced shift in date. The league may likely start with an expanded format from the 12 teams that last season in the combined conference of Atlantic and Savannah.
