MTS Expands Services to Apapa, Others Phone services on the new MTS First Wireless network is now available in more areas of Lagos, including Apapa, Festac, Alaba, Surulere and adjoining areas. MTS First Wireless, Nigeria's pioneer wireless phone operator, had recently launched its CDMA2000 1X wireless phone network in Lagos, with coverage in Lagos Island, Victoria Island, Ikoyi and adjoining locations. Services are expected to be available in other areas of Lagos, including Isolo, Ikeja and other areas, preparatory for the full commercial launch of the company's wireless services. Prospective subscribers in these areas covered by MTS are already taking advantage of the company's attractive pre-commercial launch tariffs. They have subscribing to the network at the corporate headquarters of the company at IMB Plaza, Victoria Island, Lagos. Currently, calls within the MTS First Wireless network are free, while calls to GSM phones are N24.50k per minute. The test launch tariffs will be maintained, according to MTS until new rates are announced at the full commercial launch, which will take place soon. MTS First Wireless headquarters have become a beehive of activities since the commencement of phone services where desktop and limited mobility phones are being offered to subscribers. MTS Head of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Reuben Muoka, confirmed at the weekend that expansion is going on as planned, and that within a short time, some parts of Lagos, which have not yet experienced the network's services, will now do so. He said that the packages for old MTS customers will also be announced very soon but that many of the old subscribers of the company are turning up to obtain the new services.
