By Pius Anakali

Smarting from its triumph at the National Sports Festival held in Abuja last month, Delta State has continued in its resolve to dominate Nigerians sports by picking the highly prized 100metres gold in both the male and female  categories in the ongoing Nkoyo Ibori National  Games.

To emerge victorious, Emele clocked a time of 10.47 while Omojuwa returned a time of 11.61.

Speaking shortly after the event, Emele adduced his victory to  hard work and the encouragement of coaches attached to the team.

He said the state has done a lot and was prepared for the Lady Ibori event, noting that the only way they can pay her back was to perform well.

"We were camped in Ibadan with all the necessary encouragement. We were well taken care of as well, so nobody should expect anything less than victory, she said.

In special sports event also decided at the  cultural centre venue, Delta again stole the show by winning gold in the Men’s Team Class 1-5 Wheelchair TableTennis. Edo state got a silver for their effort while Imo came behind in a joint third position with Oyo state.

In the women’s wheelchair Team 1-5. Imo emerged victorious  while Delta came second. Ondo and Edo were joint third.

Sixteen states are taking part in the wheel  chair Table Tennis while 31 states sent in participants to the four-day junior championship.

One of the coaches attached to the Delta State team, Taiwo Ariyo said all the athletes from Delta State would do well in the competition.

He said though he expected some form of challenge from other statesbut noted that such would  do little to change the table at the end of the event.
