Fuel Tax: Marketers Refund N822m - PPPRA From Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja Petroleum marketers have so far refunded the sum of N821, 632,388.50 out of the total amount collected during the controversial N1.50 fuel tax levy imposed by the Federal Government early January. In a communiqu� at the end of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) 2nd Quarterly Meeting PPPRA chairman, Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi, said the refunded sum has been paid into the relevant CBN account leaving a balance of N12,626,404.50. He said members of the board discussed various issues including "happenings in the downstream sector, state of the domestic refineries, participation in the procurement of petroleum products as well as other market fundamentals". Other matters considered were the petroleum products avalability and proces said Gbadamosi. "Of particular interest to the meeting was the issue of the suspended fuel levy refunds that continued to attract the attention of many industry watchers. PPPRA wishes to state that contrary to reports that levies collected were unaccounted for, a total of N821,632,388.50 have been refunded by marketers", said the Board. Earlier, at a meeting of stakeholders PPPRA failed to get the marketers and Labour to agree on terms for handling the crisis of fuel supply in the domestic market The stakeholders meeting was attended by representatives of Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigerian labour Congress (NLC), National Union of road Transport Workers (NURTW), major marketers, Independent Petroleum Marketers Associa-tion of Nigerian (IPMAN), Ministries of Transport, Labour, Finance, and NNPC.
