Domestic Gas: FG, Mobil Sign Deal By Mike Oduniyi In a bid to check the rising cost of cooking gas in the country, the Federal Government said it has reached an agreement with US oil firm ExxonMobil for the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to the domestic market. The government said the deal was in line with its poverty alleviation programme, where it expects urgent resuscitation of many dormant LPG filling plants across the country, reinvigorate the distribution network thereby providing gainful employment. The agreement entails the supply of the LPG produced from ExxonMobil Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) plant located offshore Rivers State, where government's share of output from the plant will now be made available to the domestic market. The Federal Government through the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), holds 49 percent equity in the NGL plant. Speaking to newsmen in Lagos yesterday, the Special Assistant to the President on Petroleum Matters, Alhaji Ja'afaru Paki, said that following the pact, the Federal Government will next week commence implementation of its plan to supply 300,000 metric tonnes of LPG to the market for this year.
