Mantu Seeks Harmony Between FG, Citizens From Kola Ologbondiyan in Abuja Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu, yesterday, frowned at a situation in which civil society relates with the Federal Government "as if it is an illegitimate army of occupation" and called for a harmonious working relationship. Mantu, who made this assertion in an address he delivered at this year's annual meeting of the Nigeria Development Forum held at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos, noted that, "part of the teething problems of democracy which we need to surmount is; unlearning previous ways of doing things. According to him, "under military regimes, the only service that civil society owed government was to speed up its demise. Under such undemocratic forms, notorious for their ferocity in suppressing freedom of speech and other rights and their rapacity and audacity in robbing the state, every arm and ammunition by which they could be overthrown was fair game. "As a matter of fact, it is a patriotic duty of citizens to see the speedy demise of such regimes.
