Alli Not Answerable to PDP, Says Mantu From Funmi Peter-Omale in Jos Deputy Senate president Ibrahim Mantu has said the Administrator of Plateau State Major-General Chris Alli is not answerable to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Apparently reacting to last Tuesday's accusation by Chief Audu Ogbe, PDP's National Chairman that Alli was exceeding his mandate by making structural changes in the state, Mantu said "the administrator is not answerable to our political party. He's answerable to the government of the federation who sent him there." He was satisfied with the relative peace the state is witnessing but said that all hands must be on deck to restore the state's lost glory. Mantu who was speaking for the first time on the alleged compromising role he played in the declaration of state of emergency in Plateau State, absolved himself from the decision of President Olusegun Obasanjo to impose the emergency rule and suspend democratic structures in the state on May 18. "Since the rumour had been going round, I have refused to join issues with those people talking because I have forgiven them. You all know who actually declared a state of emergency and he gave his reasons." In another development, the Deputy Senate President, has described the Nigerian political class as "disunited" saying "ethnic and majority group politics" has been Nigeria's lot. Mantu stated this in a paper titled "Public Policy and National Development: The Evolving Role of the National Assembly in Addressing the Burning Questions" at the second Nigeria Development Forum meeting holding at NIPSS, Kuru, yesterday.
