Counsel Attributes Igwe's Murder to Curses
From Charles Onyekamuo in Awka

Counsel for Prince Kenneth Emeakayi, a Commissioner in the administration of Dr Chinwoke Mbadinuju of Anambra State and one of the accused persons in the September 1, 2002 murder of the former Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Onitsha branch, Mr Barnabas Igwe, and his wife Amaka, has said that the cause and eventual killers of the Igwes could be traced to his native town, Atta, in Njaba Local Government area of Imo State.

Emeakayi's counsel, Mr Tochukwu Onwugbufor (SAN) who stated this while cross-examining Mr Viincent Igwe ( younger brother to the slain chairman) noted that the late Barnabas Igwe had used his office and position to engage members of his Atta community especially his town union in serious policy disagreement when he was alive.

Onwugbufor who was cross-examining Vincent (PW1) at the Aguata High Court, Anambra State yesterday said he found that the late Igwe was always at loggerheads with the president of his town union, one Chief John Agbasi, as well as the traditional ruler of his community, Eze Edwin Azike which resulted in court litigations.
