Gov Pledges Support for Community over Projects

Governor Boni Haruna of Adamawa State has reaffirmed the determination of the state government to complement the efforts of any community that embarks on people-oriented projects for the development of their areas.
The governor gave the assurance while addressing a delegation from Garkida community in Gombi Local Government area of the state. The dlegation, which was led by Major-General Ibrahim Bakta Haruna (rtd), was on a thank-you visit to the governor over the appointment of Mrs. Ayuba Mshelia as a deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The governor explained that he was particularly impressed with the massive investment by indigenes of Garkida, which he said has gone a long way in stimulating the economic development of the area.
He noted that to further encourage such spirit, the state government would rehabilitate the Garkida main street and complete the Jauro-Buba and Orchard roads, started by the community.
Haruna said the renovation of the Garkida General Hospital, a leprosarium, which has been approved to serve as a centre of excellence for another communicable diseases, would also be given a face-lift.
The governor held that the gesture was in line with the policy thrust of his administration to ensure that structures and institutions that have been on ground for a long time without receiving government's intervention are given attention.
The chief executive commended indigenes of the area for their hard work and unity, stressing that the Garkida community has been a peaceful community in the last five years of his administration.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation pledged unalloyed support and cooperation of the people to the government in its determination to provide more dividends of democracy.
He said the community within last five years expended over N20 million on execution of various self-help projects, including the construction of about six kilometers road and two canals of standard repute.
