63 Headmasters Suspended over Strike Katsina From Jare Ilelaboye in Katsina Katsina State Ministry of Education has suspended 63 headmasters in the old Katsina Local Government area who closed their schools unilaterally without informing any of higher authorities during the current strike action of teachers in the state. Also, government had concluded its intention to investigate 16 education secretaries in various local government councils in the state, who were allegedly involved themselves in mismanagement of teachers allowances in the state. Revealing this at a press conference in Katsina, the state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Mustapha Moahmed Inuwa described the current strike action of primary teachers in the state as illegal and an act of sabotage which goes contrary to the labour laws that allows negotiation between an employer and employee before embarking on any strike action. He said the action of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) officials in the state failed to meet the minimum standard of these ethics before embarking on strike as NUT failed to exhaust the instrument of negotiation. Government, he said, would follow the rule and regulations to the letter as it could not condone illegality committed by the 63 headmasters, who were accused of closing their schools without any authority, saying the headmasters would remain suspended. He said no amount of blackmail and intimidation would force government to rescind its decision on the suspension.
