Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Leke Pitan, yesterday renewed call for the Organised Private Sector (OPS) and corporate bodies to complement the state government's effort in the delivery of quality service to Lagosians.
He urged public servants, who are privileged to serve the masses at any period to see their responsibilities to humanity as not just for material means but as enduring legacies to posterity.
Pitan, who spoke during the commissioning of sets of computers and opening of website, donated by International Learning System (ILS) to Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Lagos, said "every visionary individual should be able to contribute his own quota towards the common legacy, which belonged to everybody as the opportunity to serve is just a privilege which should be utilised to the overall benefit of the masses in terms of quality service delivery."
Pitan said the idea of "when we are there, it is a slight promotion above others, which no sooner than expected will elapse and whatever we have done or achieved for humanity sake would remain as the only enduring legacy, which would remain as evergreen in the minds of all."
The commissioner stated that "this is the first time in the history of the health sector where a former government official would be coming to render such an essential service for the cause of advancing the development of the sector."
According to him, "the occasion symbolised so many things as it showed that there is an understanding between past administrations and the present one in terms of forging ahead for a common goal to address some of the problems facing the masses.
Noting that the gesture would go a long way in addressing some of the bureaucratic hitches faced by practitioners, Pitan emphasised that "this is the vision, the mission currently being evolved in the on-going reform programmes of Federal Government in enlightening Nigerians on the need to see service delivery as imperative to nation-building."
