'I won't Succumb to Intimidation' From Jaiyeola Andrews in Asaba Chairman, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, Arch. Josiah Iroro has alleged that he was being intimidated by those he described as the powers that-be in Abuja' since he assumed office few months ago. The chairman who spoke to newsmen recently in Asaba, said "Ogie tried to get a court injuction to stop the local government election after I was cleared to run, but he failed. The report of the committee set up by the national working committee of PDP endorsed my chairmanship". He explained that his endorsement was also based on the fact that the Labaran committee had earlier in 2002, recommended his candidature, adding that "after my name was submitted to DSIEC by the national secretariat of the party, they have employed various tactics to intimidate me". According to him, the chairmanship position of any local government should be determined by the people of the area, and not by outsiders. Iroro noted that all influential sons and daughters of the area, should endeavour to use their position to foster unity in the area and not to cause disaffection. He vowed to fight for his right and defend the mandate given to him by his people, insisting that he would not succumb to intimidation from any quarter. On his opinion regarding the tribunal handling the case, the chairman said "I believe strongly that, the 3 - man panel will ensure that justice prevails". Iroro stated that he was in no way threatened by the intimidation from his perceived foes, adding that his concern was how to make lives more meaningful for his people during his tenure in office.
