Project Nigeria: Unilorin Emerges First

University of Ilorin yesterday in Lagos clinched the first position at the national final of "Project Nigeria: A Future and A Hope" essay contest.
Project Nigeria was conceived by the Gateway Bank Plc to make positive impact on the society through challenging the youth to think, analyse and proffer solutions to the nation's challenges.
It is an inter-varsity contest, which involves debate, analysis and presentations designed to stimulate both intellectual and practical discourse on issues concerning Nigeria.
Abia State University, Uturu, University of Lagos and Onabisi Onabanjo University, Ago- Iwoye came second, third and fourth respectively.
Out of the 44 universities that enrolled in the maiden contest, 17 universities submitted entries for contest, while one out of the 17 was disqualified for not complying with the set criteria for proper entry.
Speaking at the occasion, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Samuel Olatunji said that the initiative is the bank's token contribution to the process of putting the nation on the path to greatness.
"We therefore opined that by creating the right structure and environment, and utilising the ivory tower as a vehicle, this idea could germinate, be sustained and yield beneficial fruits towards a better Nigeria.
"For us at Gateway Bank, Project Nigeria is an expression of our conviction that the youth and the university system are critical stakeholders in the task of nation building and must be practically involved in the process of contributing ideas and promoting an acceptable value system", he said.
Olatunji said that the bank would present the winning papers to the National Assembly, the judiciary and the presidency.
In his closing remarks, the chairman, governing panel of the contest, Mr. Gamaliel Onosode noted that the exercise has been a resounding success.
In his own remarks, the Minister of Education, Professor Fabian Osuji commended the staff, management and board of Gateway Bank for being a good corporate Nigeria.
