Military to establish armed forces school, hospital boards

The military is to establish Armed Forces schools and hospital
boards, a source close to the three days meeting between the Chief of Defence
Staff, General Alexander Ogomudia and the three service chiefs has disclosed.
The sources said proposals to this effect have been
submitted to the Defence Minister, Rabiu Kwankwaso, for onward transmission to
the president for approval.
The source said in Abuja that if approved, the curriculum
of the schools in the Army, Navy and the Air Force would be streamlined.
According to him, under the proposal all the primary
and secondary schools operated by the Armed Forces will open and close at the
same time, employment of teachers as well as promotion, discipline will be in
line with the approved standard.
At present there are variations in the syllabus,
salary scale, allowances and school fees, among the schools in the three
services.
Also the
proposed Armed Force Medical Board would regulate medical practice in the three
services, and the appointment of doctors, nurses and other health workers as
well as standardise their hospitals.
The pharmaceutical standardisation and streamlining
would lead to the redesignation of the Armed Amphibious Brigade, and the army
may be restricted to land operations, the Navy, Sea and the Air force, Air
operations.
