A crucial meeting of all the Global System
for Mobile communications (GSM) operators in the country ended in Abuja on
Thursday, with the decisions reached by delegates still to be ratified by the
top managements of the four companies.
The Forum of GSM Operators, the fourth
since 2001, took place inside the Ladi Kwali Conference Hall of the Abuja
Sheraton Hotel and Towers amid high expectations from both the operators and
their consumers, as a number of issues critical to service provision were
billed for discussion.
Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer
of the host operator, Nigerian Mobile Telecommunications Limited (M-TEL), Mr.
Aad Loois, while declaring the meeting open, stressed the need for all the GDM
operators to work together in their collective desire to resolve those issue
that were capable of affecting service delivery.
“We might be fighting each other in
the market; we might be fighting for market share, but it is desirable that we
join hands to look at issues of common interests,” he said.
