The Ekiti State
Government has been urged to prevail on the 16 local governments chairmen in
the state to support the National Population Commission’s (NPC) effort to
ensure a hitch free population census in the state next year.
The state Director
of the commission, Chief Moses Fadipe, who made the appeal when he paid a
courtesy call on the state Deputy Governor, Mr. Abiodun Aluko in his office in
Ado Ekiti,
also called on the
state government to update the state maps as most of those available in local
governments have become obsolete.
The director
solicited for government’s assistance in the area of logistics and
suitable accommodation to enhance the success of the commission next year.
Speaking earlier,
Aluko assured the director that the state government would do everything
towards to ensure the success of the headcount next year.
He said the state
attached importance to the exercise because accurate census data would enhance
development through adequate planning with correct data.
Aluko said the
government could not overlook the fact that population constitutes one of the
indices of statutory allocation to states and local governments from the
federation account.
He gave an
assurance that the state government would ensure that no stone was unturned for
the provision of relevant data with a view to enhancing proper planning.
