Delta sweeps hurdles medals at Ibori meet

The trio of Digha
Joy, Bukola Azeez and Rebecca Okitiphi made a clean sweep of medals available
in 100-metres hurdles for women winning by a respectable time of 14.08, 14.10
and 14.20 respectively.
In the 110-metres
hurdles for men, Ikechukwu Maku from Imo State won with a time of 15.01, while
Victor Igunbor from Niger State came second with a time of .15.37. In the third
place was Roland Oglegbaem who returned 15.60
Other events also decided yesterday include
the final 800metres men and women. In the men’s event, Lucky Benjamin
competing under the banner of Abia State led the pack, winning in 1min,55.87second. In the second
position was Shanem Yinusa from Kogi, while Tunde Mudashiru from Ogun State picked
the bronze medal.
In the
women’s event, Joy Eze of Enugu came first followed by Sekinat Adesanya
from Ogun and Funke Falana from Edo State in third position.
Meanwhile, it was
complaints galore on Thursday as athletes who came all the way from Kebbi State accused officials of
frustrating them. Coach Danladi Dankebi who spoke to Daily Independent confirmed that
though they were late for the event, they should have been allowed to compete
in the events that were yet to start before their arrival.
Danladi said with
the situation of things, they are ready to return home but that they have exhausted their money. They are therefore pleading with the AFN for assistance to enable them return
home..
Kebbi was listed
alongside Taraba, FCT, Kaduna and
Gombe as states not participating in the event.
