Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State has not delivered dividends
of democracy, hence the Alliance for Democracy must be chased
out of Lagos, says Works Minister, Chief Adeseye Ogunlewe.
Speaking with reporters on a recent tour of federal projects
in Bauchi State, the Minister said plans had been concluded
to have a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government in Lagos
in 2007.
"We must chase out the AD. We have equally discovered
that Tinubu is not from Lagos State, he is from Osun. We know
his real name now, so he should go back to Osun State."
Pointing to some projects executed by the Bauchi State Government
as classic examples of dividends of democracy, Chief Ogunlewe
said: "Those in Lagos are not supposed to be in government,
they are infidels. See what the governor of Bauchi State has
done within a short period, almost all the roads shown us
today were built in his second term. You came from Lagos,
tell me what Tinubu has done in one year. I am not talking
of Federal roads, I’m talking about state roads. You
went to the specialist hospital in Bauchi too, did you not
see a different kind of hospital in terms of structure, operations
and service delivery? Look at the Government Lodge in Bauchi,
it can take everybody on my entourage. This type of thing
does not exist in Lagos for visitors.
"The governor’s house in Marina is only three bedrooms.
I want Tinubu to show us what he has done after one year,
all he can do is abuse Ogunlewe. He should tell me what he
has done in one year, and I’ll show him what I’ve
done in four months. The records are there for everybody to
see, and I want to assure Nigerians that by the end of another
year, things would change drastically from good to better.
It is a commitment and it is not political. It is just like
your own profession, you must be able to write well, it is
not because you want to play politics that you must write
well."
Taking a look into the year 2007, Ogunlewe says the Alliance
for Democracy (AD) must be driven out of Lagos.
"We will drive them away, there is no doubt about it.
Tinubu knows that there is no hiding place for him. Go to
Cross River and see the Government House there, you will not
believe that you are in Nigeria. Even in Bayelsa, when you
see the houses the governors built, you will see that there
is real governance there. Gov. Alamieyeseigha built a computer
centre with 350 computers, and a fully air-conditioned ferry
for transportation. Tinubu should also launch such project,
it will pay more in Lagos than in Bayelsa, because if you
are in Apapa and you want to get to Marina, it would be easy
for you. So the point is that you must govern, there is no
substitute for it."
Ogunlewe describes the fourth mainland bridge and Epe airport
being planned by Tinubu as pipe dreams, stressing: "You
know, he talks before he thinks. People like that should not
be in government. In four years, the state cannot boast of
any new road. In my own senatorial district, he has not carried
out any project in five years."
The minister promised that a new vigour would be injected
into the operation of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency
(FERMA), and that 500 roads would be rehabilitated within
the year.
