Touts Warned to Keep Off Computer Village

Lagos Police Command Area F at the weekend warned all illegal traders and touts who have no business at Computer Village, Ikeja, to vacate the place, assuring legal occupants of security of lives and property.
Area Commander, Mr Habila Joshak, said this while being conducted round the market by officials of Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria (CAPDAN).
Habila, who defied the rain, went round the market and explained that "Computer Village is one big place in Nigeria today that has direct impact on the economic activities of the nation. Therefore, there is nothing too much to be done in order to protect lives and property of both the people doing business here and customers who usually come from far and near."
He observed that illegal street trading and the presence of touts in the market has made nonsense of the real concept of the market, promising that the needed sanitation would be carried out to ensure that the environment is safe, most especially for customers.
"Ours is to provide adequate security and ensure that those who are here are indeed those who should be here to do business. People doing illegal business on the streets should begin to look elsewhere. Also, all the touts loitering around the market should note that those days are gone forever. It won't be business as usual any longer," he warned.
Habila maintained that the police have the capacity to provide adequate security, but said they need the cooperation of both shop owners and landlords to fish out illegal traders and touts. "We can achieve the much-desired success, but I believe that all stakeholders, especially shopowners and landlords should cooperate with us to sanitise the market," he said.
He declined the possibility of establishing a Police Post in the market, adding that the Computer Village did not constitute any security threat but promised that the police would rid the place of illegal transactions and touts.
