Obada Wants Economy Diversified Osun From Hammed Shittu in Osogboa Deputy Governor of Osun State, Erelu Olusola Obada, weekend said the continued dependence of the successive government in Nigeria on oil sector as a sources of revenue earning has affected the socio-economic growth of the country. Obada, who disclosed this while participating on the state Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC) programme tagged "Open Forum," said the development has made government not to look into another sectors of the economy that could have helped the government to meet its yearnings and aspirations for the masses. The deputy governor added that if government could shift attention into agricultural sector of the economy by developing cocoa product like in the olden days, much exported revenue could have been accrued to the purse of government for developmental purposes. She stressed that "we need to develop agricultural sector as being done by President Olusegun Obasanjo and Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State so as to move the nation forward." She opined that in order to accelerate the socio-economic growth of the state, government has taken a bold step by purchasing over 300 tractors capable of boosting the agricultural development of the state, adding that apart from this, we put a programme called "Oyin Corps" where we gave over 2,500 unemployed graduates unemployment as part of efforts at reducing poverty among the citizenry. Obada however stated that government has employed another set of 1,200 youths in the state that would see to the development of farm settlements, so as to bring food to the doorsteps of the masses.
