Bank Chief Arrested Over N200m Fraud
Jigawa
From Bala Nasir in Dutse

Dutse Branch Manager of First Bank Plc, Mr. Musa Kama has been arrested alongside seven others over allegations of fraud to the tune of N200 million.

Apart from this allegation, the manager is also said to have conspired with his colleagues in the branch along with two others from the Federal Inland Revenue to swindle VAT proceeds in the state capital.

Sources said the amount of money swindled could be up to the tune of N25 million. This figure however is separate from the amount they have Swindled from the bank which amounted to over N200 million.

One of the alleged criminals, Malam Mati Taura, also a manager of another First Bank branch in Gamawa Bauchi State, has also been apprehended by the police. The other two, Mr. Mele Maruwa and Ibrahim Dutse are staffers of the Federal Inland Revenue in Dutse.

The culprits continuously swindled VAT proceeds by diverting the money to their private accounts instead of lodging them into FIR's account.

To make tracing uneasy, they were said to have been distorting all bank tellers and other documents related to the proceeds in the bank. This was what helped them to continue with their activity for a long period of about three years.

Confirming the arrest of the culprits, Commissioner of Police Jigawa State Command, Alhaji Saleh Abubakar said investigations has only begun and would be too early to disclose how much is involved in the scam.

It alleged that the Dutse branch manager of the bank, Mr. Musa Kama has been in the hotel business in Dutse where he probably had been investing proceeds of the fraud.

The other culprit, Ibrahim Duste has also been acquiring property which he leases.

Meanwhile, all the eight suspects have been flown to Abuja where investigation proper is expected to commence.
