Basketball Fed Hammers Yelwa, Islanders
Fines them N50, 000 for non- participation

The Nigeria BasketballFederation (NBBF) has used the sledge hammer on three teams in the Premier Basketball League ordering them to pay a fine of N50, 000 each. They are Yelwa Hawks, Plateau Peaks and erstwhile league champions, Lagos Islanders.
In a letter to the clubs, the Federation stated that the sanction follows the clubs' failure to attend the Final-8 Play off last December in Kano.
"They did not attend the play off despite qualifying for the competition without any form of communication with the Federation prior or even after the programme. Only one of the absentee clubs officially communicated with the Federation.
"The league is governed by rules and all the teams are very conversant with such regulations," the Premier League Director, Muktar Khaleh explained.
It was explained that the fourth team, Dodan Warriors communicated with the NBBF when it was certain they would not be able to make the trip to Kano last year.
By the stand of the Federation, the erring clubs will pay the fine before they can feature in the current season, which takes the first jump ball this month.
The Islanders were the defending champions at period they stayed away from the play off series while Yelwa Hawks were runners up to the Islanders in the same period. Former champions Comets reclaimed the top position at the end of the competition.
The basketball governing body this week also sent out letters to clubs in the elite Premier League asking them to commence the registration process for this season. The process which is slated to start today will run through the 14th of this month just ahead of the league start off date.
A total 14 clubs are expected to feature in this year's league competition, two up from the number that featured in the last season games.
