Marketers Urged to Brace Up for Challenges
By Tunmise Adekunle
"In this era of stiffer competition among brands, products and nations, it is extremely imperative that advantages which can give needed leverage among others be taken, not only to survive but also to excel in the marketing field".
This was the assertion of the Executive Director (Marketing) of Nigerite Nigeria Limited and patron of The National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN), Engineer Yemisi Shyllon at the 2004 Compulsory Continuous Training Programme (CCTP) of the Institute held at the Lagos Airport Hotel recently.
Admonishing marketers to always be pro-active in their activities, Shyllon noted that one of the advantages that can give leverage to the professionals was qualitative training which sharpens skills and ability in strategic marketing management in ECOWAS sub region.
The marketing boss stressed that beyond making the customer buying a product, retaining him as permanent loyalist to the brands produced by the organisation was paramount. This, according to him, depended largely on the organisation's focus, either to be producer for local market or to meet the demands of international markets.
Citing Nigerite as a case, Engineer Shyllon disclosed that the organisation has extended its marketing frontiers by exporting its products to other West African countries. He therefore called on marketers to give strategic advice to their top management in order to break the marketing barriers by taking full advantage of Free and Export Processing Zones to achieve their marketing objectives.
Also speaking at the event, the President and Chairman of Council of The National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) Daniel Ogechukwu Ayozie noted that the re-training programme of the Institute was targeted at redirecting the focus of members towards charting a positive course in professional marketing practice.
