We're Still on Gordon's Spark - Kilimanjaro Boss
The managing director of Kilimanjaro, Mr. Femi Akande, has debunked reported sack of his company by Guinness Nigeria Plc. on Gordon's Spark events.
News has it recently that Kilimanjaro has been removed from managing events for Guinness Nigeria Plc., on Gordon's Spark, one of the flagship brands of Guinness
Mr. Akande in a telephone chat with THISDAY last week described the story as untrue. "We are still very much on the Gordon's Spark account. We were never sacked," he emphasised.
On the issue that the recently held Sean Paul concert was not properly handled, as a result of which the purported sack occurred, the Kilimanjaro boss said that the recent letter dated June 15, 2004, sent to his company that was signed by the managing director of Guinness Nigeria Plc., Mr. Keith Richard, was a commendation letter and re-affirmation of a continued relationship between Guinness and Kilimanjaro.
Reacting to some media reports on noticeable hiccups at the recently held Sean Paul concert, Mr. Akande said the absence of infrastructure in Nigeria will make it difficult to host an event without what he described as " such minute perceived lapses".
According to him , "in other societies, there are facilities to host big concerts, unlike Nigeria were such events will have to hold in vulnerable places like the National Stadium and other open spaces . This will definitely affect things like security and other logistics, as the amount of policing required at such venues cannot be achieved by the Nigerian Police, going by the manpower available to them." We will continue to have such concerts in Nigeria with room for improvement as events unfold," he stated.
Kilimanjaro events is the sister company of Airtel, the official franchise owner of the Sagem range of mobile phones in Nigeria. It began business in 1993 and has handled many entertainment consultancies and concerts like the Joe and Sean Paul concerts, sponsored by Gordon's Spark. The outfit also organised the recently held concert for Cool and The Gang, which was sponsored by Oando during the recent re-branding and change of name from Unipetrol Plc., to Oando
