The owner of to the demolished multi-million naira
shopping complex, known as “I Love you” plaza at Alaba, Mr. Chika
Elile, has petitioned the Lagos State Government to pay him N6 billion as
compensation for losses incurred as a result of the exercise.
In an interview with Daily Independent in his office at Ojo/Alaba, Elile
said the demolition exercise carried out by men of the Lagos State
Environmental and Sanitation taskforce was ‘‘an action directed at
him and his properties.’’
He said
the reasons given by the taskforce that he built his shops along the canal,
thereby obstructing the flow of water, was ‘‘absolutely
incorrect.’’
He pointed out that none of his shops were built near
the canal, adding that the shops were demolished because he had been having a
running battle with the families of those whom he bought his properties from.
According to him, some of the shops that were not
demolished were built very close to the canal.
The developer said he would pursue ‘‘the
matter to a logical conclusion,’’ stressing that he had invested
his life savings on so many properties in the area.
He said:
“I know that some unseen forces are behind this action and they
are bent on running my life, just because I had foresighted in acquiring landed
properties.’’
