AWKA— A PDP chieftain in Anambra State, Chief Anyaegbunam Okoye has taken Governor Chris Ngige to task over the governor’s claim that some members of the present state executive council of the party are not core PDP members, saying that the governor is being deceived by sycophants. Anyaegbunam noted that in the governor's present cabinet are former AD and APGA members. He also alleged that the governor appointed non-party members into his cabinet.
Anyaegbunam accused the governor of disobeying the decision of PDP National Working Committee which directed that a congress should be held to fill the vacant post of the state party chairman. The Governor allegedly instigated three PDP members to file a suit at the Ogidi High Court which stopped the congress fixed for last Thursday.
He said in a press statement that Ngige was being misled by “sycophants and trouble-maker in his present administration.” He explained that himself, Chief Silver Abasilim, Newton Ibegbunam, and Tessy Ezechukwu “are all card-carrying and active members of the Peoples Democratic Party right from our respective wards and local government up to the state level.”
Anyaegbunam admitted that some of them were former members of other political parties through the right channel which is a party affair and not a Government House issue.”
“Governor Chris Ngige parades almost non-party men and women in his administration as commissioners, special advisers, special assistants, from his deputy governor to Commissioners of Education, Works, Attorney General, and his blood sister. His local government executive are mostly former AD candidates and APGA stalwarts like Uche Ezeliora, Basil Ejidike, Udoji Amedu up to Basil Iweuba and other aides,” Anyaegbunam accused the governor of using the “sycophants and dubious agents to siphon state funds by claiming that they have access to national executives .
Anyaegunam alleged that Ngige was planning to set up a paralled party structure in the state which he said would benefit him. He called on the governor to tow the line of peace by heeding the advice of PDP national headquarters.
