Fuel Price: NNPC Retains Depot Price From Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) yesterday said it has not increased the lifting cost of petroleum products at its various depots across the country. The statement came on the heels of major marketers who have raised their prices to between N45.30 and N45.50 in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Sources at the corporation disclosed that the decision to stay action on price increase did not affect the sell of products at the NNPC's Mega Station as they were found to have adjusted price slightly from N39.50 to N40 per a litre of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise called petroleum and N39 for Diesel. Many of the stations visited around the FCT yesterday have started selling at the new price even without effecting the adjustment in their pumps. For instance, Conoil Petrol Station located in front of NNPC headquarters, along Herbert Maculay Way used sheet of paper to cover the meter while selling to customers at the new price. THISDAY checks revealed that both NNPC management and other relevant arms of government may have accepted the reason given by the marketers for the present hike in price of petroleum products. Marketers had in June indicated that they would be left with no option but to dispense products whose orders were placed for July at a price that would enable them recoup the landing cost. They had pressurised the Federal Government to consider offering any form of assistance or compensation in lieu of the losses purported incurred by their organisations while importing petroleum products.
