Journalists Decry Fuel Price Hike From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja The Board of Journalists Against Trafficking has said the incessant increase in the prices of petroleum products is having very negative impacts on the lives of Nigerians, particularly the families. A statement signed by its Executive Director and Administration National Co-ordinator Ajayi Oluwarotimi Jacob Edi, said the effect of the fuel hike was that the cords that bind families in Nigeria have become so feeble that human values once cherished in all parts of the country have been dangerously eroded. "The result is that more and more people in Nigeria are being compelled to go into the immoral act of prostituting in order to sustain their lives. "Perhaps more worrisome about this scenario is that increasing number of married women are being pushed into prostitution sometimes with the tacit consent of their husbands. We do note that more than ever before, more women and children are becoming willing to be trafficked out of this country to engage in various immoral acts in order to keep body and soul together," the journalists said. They further disclosed that recent visits to some of the frontline embassies in the country and interaction with some of the applicants show that many applicants for visa simply want to leave this country due to the almost unbearable economic environment now prevailing.
